‘Art from the Heart’ Fundraiser, will open this exhibit of art featuring movement and
dance, on March 28th at Studio 55C. A variety of works will be on display, including
dance rehearsal art by WPA Artist Agnes Mills portraying Paul Taylor, Alwin Nikolais &
Murray Louis and others, Chinese line painting by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, founder of
Body-Mind Centering, “Nature Being Art” photography by Jamie McHugh, a dancer and
movement therapist, and ‘Vespers,’ watercolors with pen and ink by Chelsea Rushton,
yoga teacher and artist.
The exhibit is being hosted by Moving for Life, the non-profit dance organization in
charge of Studio 55C. Each exhibitor has a relationship to Moving For Life and the field
of “somatic movement” – the art of paying attention to your body’s sensation.
During the opening, Aswad Foster will lead two twenty-minute ‘Fighting Monkey’
classes, a unique mix of martial arts and dance skills, and all attendees are invited to slip
off their shoes and join in.
The exhibit has been organized by Martha Eddy, CMA, EdD the Founding Director of
Moving for Life, Hugh Wilson, PhD, Moving for Life Board member, Professor
Emeritus of Adelphi University, and Christine Irvin, Director of the Stamford Art
Association, whose members include painters, sculptors, printmakers, photographers and
multimedia artists. The exhibit will close with a live art auction on May 19 and an online
auction that will run from May 1 to May 19 accessible online. Proceeds will fund Moving
for Life’s free dance and wellness programs in neighborhoods in need in all five
The Studio 55C Gallery is open Tuesday evenings from 5-7pm, Mon/Wed/Thursday
from 11 am to 3 pm, and Saturday/Sunday by appointment. Admission is free.
